archery.

so archery is seriously going up the popularity ranks. which is pretty impressive considering it is a sport that dates back to a long long long time ago, all the way back to stone spears. and to those who were like "i was into archery before it was cool.", i will give you a standing ovation. because i completely totally cannot be one of these "cool" archers. even under the circumstances where a professional superstar archer/ katniss/ merida was training me, i would still like shoot myself or someone in the face and then the arrow would get lost in the ocean somewhere. yep, im that clumsy. but back to the archery comeback. let's see how archery has recently affected pop culture.

for the most recent happenings, the Olympics! the sport of archery, thanks to The Hunger Games, has risen in popularity. Jennifer Lawerence AKA katniss everdeen's shooting skills were thanks to coaching by 5 time olympian, Khatuna Lorig, who trained her for the movie. And today Lorig advanced to Round 8 in the games!

Now into the magic of movies. Archery's role in movies is the main reason behind it's so crazy popular.  There's The Hunger Games (which  i hope you know about. you should.) causing teens to pull their hair into braids and take up archery at any cost. Then in Avengers, they featured Hawkeye, the superhero version played by Jeremy Renner (who btw is gonna be in Bourne Legacy). But the most recent and probably may be my favorite is Brave.

Brave, is Pixar's latest movie with their first female lead, Merida. Merida is a fiery and rebellious girl who doesn't want to follow the path that people want her to take or play by any of the rules. and i'm totally obsessed. She's determined, adventurous, has a cool horse, is totally KICK BUTT with bow and arrows, and has great hair. If only i could animate my hair to be like that and it would look good. It makes me wanna be a scottish princess, sigh.  The whole movie is classic Pixar with amazing animated landscapes , the awesomesauce characters, a pretty soundtrack with Birdy and Mumford & Sons (omigod heck YEAH.) and great plot. I saw this a couple weeks ago and was totally glued the whole time (which was expected, since im a pixar geek ) so if you haven't seen it GO NOW! JUST GO! (is it even still in theaters though?)

that's all for now
